Another Tragedy on Half Dome

Half Dome as seen from Glacier PointAnother fatality on Half Dome. Almost 2 years to the day a Japanese hiker fell from here.

Yosemite National Park Ranger Scott Gediman said the man fell at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, and that officials believe he was using the cable handrails that help hikers make it up and down the landmark.

Gediman said conditions on Half Dome’s granite face were slippery because of rain and hail.

I can’t believe there weren’t anymore fatalities. 30 other climbers on the slick rock! That’s amazing.

A tragic story. :-(

FYI: This second-hand account says he was heading down Half Dome, not up.

Opps! I was reading the 2007 news story. The second-hand story is still worth the read, nonetheless.
